Belmont Park Race 8 Allowance NW1 3YO+ 4:40 EST Today’s ROTD is a ten-horse field going nine furlongs on the inner turf course. I’m going to take a stand against the morning line favorite 7 Rally Squirrel as he was beaten last time out by another who’s running in this very race. I don’t see it as being a particularly fast pace, so I’m ruling out the 3 Agent Creed and 5 Lord Flintshire on the ‘win’ line. I don’t feel they’ll be able to make up the ground necessary to take this one. Likewise, the 4 Front Line Dancer, who I suspect will be in better position than those two, but figures to be an underlay at post time coming out of the Todd Pletcher barn. Instead, I’m looking at a pair of horses that should be rating closer to the front. I’m going to box them in an exacta and, if I’m right, make a nice hit. The 6 Barleewon is a 5-year-old gelding and the most seasoned horse in the race. (He’s making his twenty-ninth start today.) It’s his first time out for trainer Jose Camejo and Irad Ortiz, Jr. climbs aboard. Very convenient. If this horse has something left in the tank, it’s bound to show up today. The 9 Breadman was beaten as the post time favorite last time out. The aforementioned Lord Flintshire and Rally Squirrel ran second and third, respectively, in that race. But today trainer John Terranova II puts blinkers on. He’s connecting at a 27% clip with first time blinkers. Flavien Prat stays on the mount.
