THE MASTERS
I am in full fade mode with regards to including Viktor Hovland in any props this week. He ranks dead last in Strokes Gained: Around the Green with thirty rounds under his belt this season. The rest of his game cannot make up for his lack in this department. He was the low amateur in 2019 and finished T21 last year. I don’t see him finishing any better than that in this year’s edition.
Tiger Woods To Make the Cut +108 10:34 EST THURS Big shocker here, I know. Eldrick has never missed the cut playing the Masters as a professional. If he tees it up Thursday, he’ll be playing the weekend.
Patrick Cantlay Top 5 Finish +410 1:41 EST THURS Patrick has three top five finishes this season, including losing in a playoff to world number one Scottie Scheffler. The reigning FedEx Cup Champion has something to prove after missing the cut at last year’s Masters.
Jordan Spieth Top 5 Finish +400 1:52 EST THURS Spieth has recorded four top ten finishes in eight career Masters starts. He putts best on fast greens and noted during his press availability that his recent struggles have been due to slower conditions. His iron play last week at the Valero Open was phenomenal.
MLB FUTURES
Seiya Suzuki National League ROY +350 2:20 EST THURS Suzuki debuts with the Cubs as a 27-year-old rookie making the jump from Nippon Professional Baseball to the MLB. Compared to other Japanese players who made the same transition (and not named Matsui), he arrives with the highest home run rate (5.1%). The Cubs were excited enough to make him the fifth-highest free agent signing in their frnachise history.
Bobby Witt Jr. American League ROY +300 4:10 EST THURS The number one prospect in baseball has Royals fans excited for the 2022 season. From a team standpoint, they will go only as far as their pitching will take them. But they will be exciting to watch on offense. Witt becomes the youngest player to break camp with the big league club for the Royals. His performance forced the front office’s hand.
Detroit Tigers Over 78.5 Wins -110 1:10 EST FRI The addition of OF Austin Meadows this week will give the Tigers both a stopgap while Riley Greene heals from a foot injury, and lineup flexibility moving forward. The pitching should take a step forward this season as well. The American League Central is just not that good. You get to play the Royals nineteen times, and I like the White Sox (who Detroit hosts Opening Day Friday) less with every passing day. This team should be in the Wild Card hunt with an outside shot at the division.
Seattle Mariners To Win AL West Division +450 4:10 EST FRI Winners of ninety games last year, the Mariners only improved their position this offseason, adding pitcher Robbie Ray, second baseman Adam Frazier, and outfielder Jesse Winkler. They also get the A’s and Rangers a combined thirty-eight times. I’ll believe the Angels can win this division when I see it. Seattle is going for it this year.
