Today’s feature is a claimer for fillies and mares 3YO+. Irad is on a price horse. He’s 4-for-7 in 2021-22 riding for trainer Philip Serpe.
My alma mater is playing in its first bowl game in 14 years today, so of course I’m going to give you a homer pick or two for the game.
Gulfstream Park • Race 7 • 3:10 p.m. ET [PPs] The top two choices on the morning line – 8 Funny Enough and 9 Flip My Id – don’t really jump off the page here, although Funny Enough has hit the board in her last three efforts. Luis Saez jumps aboard, which is a plus. None of the horses here have much late speed, so I’m going to lean on horses that project as forwardly placed. 1 Walks Like a Lady should be sent from the rail, her first time on synthetic. She won her last time out and today’s trainer / jockey combo is 3-for-10 in 2021-22. The lone sustained runner in the field is 3 Cupid Austin. She’ll need a proper setup, but if one or two challenge Walks Like a Lady early, there may just be enough pace for her to close into. At the morning line of 6-1 or better, she’ll be my top choice.
Picks: 3-8-9-1
LIBERTY BOWL • Kansas v. Arkansas • 5:30 p.m. ET My Jayhawks are a 2.5-point underdog today in Memphis. Surely every pundit is picking the Hogs. I’m not even looking to take the points here. Straight up moneyline for me. KU has spent the month of December healing. The key for the Hawks is to avoid the poor starts that plagued them during the second half of the season. They have an explosive offense that can score in bunches. If they get up by double digits, the Razorbacks simply aren’t built to mount a comeback. They’d much rather play the ball-control run game.
Bets: KU +120, 1H total Over 34 -110
Best of luck!
